I hadn't seen this. Brava to Ann Olivier. This is very amusing and effective in making an important point.

William D. You’re a major disgrace!”
Cried he, as he smoothed his skirt of lace.

Re: New Entry for Most Lavish Cappa Magna Contest: Cardinal Franc Rodé

Amen, Kathy.

William D. As did the one from someone who was enraged that people would question the need for lavish vestments when a bride spends more on a wedding gown used once than a prelate on a cappa magna he uses for years.

But the bride doesn't stand before us and tell us she is standing in the place of Christ. A priest does.

And I have a tad bit of difficulty picturing Jesus in a cappa magna or its equivalent for his historical period.

William D. I think not. The TLM was very frequently just as mundane and low brow as the Novus Ordo--polyester chasubles and everything--high Mass as well as low Mass.

Rode, Burke, and Benedict just thrive on this kind of over done theatre and they aren't fooling very many people.
