Bilgrimage: Continuing Mainstream Media Silence about Gay Stories: Two Recent Cases

I agree that more, and more balanced reporting on gay lives would be constructive. Some news from the other side of the Atlantic this week I found encouraging. Here in the UK, there's been a lot of news about the sudden death of Stephen Gately, the singer. The reports I've seen (not many, as I have minimal interest) tended to dance coyly around the matter of words for his relationship, usually referring only to his "friend" . But that's not the "encouraging" bit.

The interesting part is reports from Ireland, covering his funeral. I have seen a couple of reports about these stating that the Irish press were totally direct, describing the bereaved man as Stephen's "husband" - even, reportedly, "from the altar", even though the term is not strictly accurate (they were civil partners, not married). This is from Catholic Ireland, where not that long ago it was illegal even to buy contraceptives.

    Progress happens.

Nice turn around on the Leviticus argument.

Thank you. And I can't take credit for noticing the text. Someone else pointed this out to a blogger I read regularly--I think it was to Andrew Sullivan--but I did not bookmark the posting, and couldn't link to it. Nor could I find it when I did a search. I would just have noted that Andrew Sullivan's blog deserves credit for bringing this text to my attention, but I'm not 100% I did see this on the Daily Dish, though I think that's where I ran across it.
